Big thanks to PIPE AND HAT for including us on their very first mix tape! There are lots of very cool artists on this list so be sure to give it a listen!
Our friend Kandis Gauthier is an amazing videographer and she was kind enough to put this video together for us from the last show. She did such an awesome job!
WOW! We played to a nearly sold out show last night at The Starlite room and what an amazing crowd! Thank you so much to our videographer Kandis and our photographer Heiko. Of course Sonic 102.9 FM for picking us for Sonic band of the month and to everyone who came out and showed us your support. We love you guys so much! What incredible month!
We recently did a performance and interview for Breakfast Television! You can view the segment here but we thought we’d post the full performance of one of our tracks “Unicorn”. It’s unreleased so enjoy the vid!
Great news! We are September’s official Sonic 102.9FM Band of the Month! Click on the photo below to see our video interview on the Sonic website and be sure to come out to our show at the Starlite Room on Friday, September 27th!
UNWED MOTHERS // BAND OF THE MONTH
We’ve been busy with lots of exciting stuff coming up! On Saturday we filmed for Balcony TV and played an acoustic version of “Slow” at Buckingham. Then it was over to Public House for Josh’s show as J. Eygenraam. Here’s a pic of Josh and Michael setting up for the shoot. Hopefully the video will be up very soon!
Wow! The Culture Collective was amazing last night. A huge plethora of local talent; film, dance, comedy, music. Everything went smoothly and it was an honour to play at the historic Garneau Theatre (Metro Cinema). Here is a pic from the show!
There was also delicious finger sandwiches and veggies. And Pabst! Yum..
Unwed Mothers is proud to be a part of the Band Together Flood Relief Fundraiser next week on Thursday July 11th. There will be tons of awesome bands from Edmonton and Calgary and all the proceeds will be helping out Calgary arts organizations (like Sled Island) affected by the floods. The line-ups are sick and it’s gonna be an awesome time!
We are super excited to be included on the upcoming Blues Rock Review Album Sampler Volume 3 which will be released on June 25th. The folks over at BRR have been extremely supportive of the new album and have been an absolute dream to work with. Today they released the video trailer for the upcoming compilation:

Mike and I played a duo set at the Millwoods Bike Fest yesterday! Halfway through the set I realized that most of our lyrical content wasn’t very family friendly, and this was definitely a family event. I tried to slur my speech a little so the words would be more ambiguous. I may have only succeeded in sounding intoxicated. But the kiddies seemed to be enjoying themselves and all the power for the entire event was powered by bicycle generated energy. Cool!
Check out Kurtis bike-powering the stage.
And we got free smoothies. Here are some reasons why bicycles are neat!
We’ve got some photos from our showcase at Canadian Music Week 2013! The lovely Scott Ramsay took some great shots and you can find his portfolio at http://www.scottramsayphotography.com. Here’s a few pics:
CMW is a great opportunity for emerging artists to showcase to a wider audience. Hopefully we’ll be back in 2014!
We’re back in the studio! Finished tracking drums last night at Sound Extractor and things are sounding pretty badass. We’re hoping to release a second album before the year is out. The tunes are much more upbeat and gritty with more rock and less folk-rock. We’re heading in a much louder direction. Thankfully Scott Mckeller was able to help us out behind the sound board last night so Kurtis hammered out the drums in no time.
We’re also getting some new shirts done up so they should be available at the next show. Kurtis and I designed them based on the wolf skull with deer antlers on the album cover. They’ll be looking something like this:
